Braves Wrestling Club, Eagle Empire Purple perfect after Day 1
BY BRANT PARSONS — The AAU Scholastic Duals kicked off on Monday at the Broward Convention Center with competition in the Community 1 and Community 2 divisions.
In Pool A of the Community 1, Braves Wrestling Club was a perfect 5-0, winning their five matches by an average score of 61.2-12.6. They sit atop the standings with Camden Greasers after the first day.
Going undefeated on the first day for the group co-leaders was Jarold Buene (5-0, 113), Aadyn Gruver (3-0, 120), Roberto De Jesus Rivera (4-0, 126-132), Travonte Burgess (5-0, 150), Jerry Ware (2-0, 157), Husam Mustafa (5-0, 165), and Kaleb Johns (5-0, 215).
Wellington’s community team finished 3-2 on the day with both losses coming to the top two teams in the group after the first day. Jad Urribarri (4-1, 165-175) had the best record of the day for the team.
In Pool B, it was Eagle Empire Purple leading the way with a 5-0 mark.
Lazaro Soto (5-0, 113), Tyrell Robby (5-0, 144), Didier Novoa (5-0, 150), Anthony Romero (5-0, 190-215), and Myron Mendez (5-0, 215-285) all had perfect days to help lead the team.
Venice Takedown Club and Westside WC both had strong starts to the tournament with 4-1 dual records on the first day.
Jeremiah Day (4-0, 165) had a perfect day for Venice with Tyson Horel (5-0, 132), Kevion Williams (5-0, 165), Jacob Rodriguez (5-0, 175), and Frankie Marquez (3-0, 285) helping pace Westside.
Explorer Wrestling Club’s Joshua Perez (126) and Nicholas Velazco (157) both were 5-0 on the day. Rocco Ruiz was 3-0 at 138 pounds.
Tuesday will see both pools complete their final five rounds.
In Community 2, Somerset Academy finished the day 3-1 in Pool E.
Darion Shannon (132), Bluny Davilma (157), Eric Hodge (165), Eli Diaz (175), Sage Suarez (190), and Mateo Martinez (215) all went 4-0 on the day.
